Welcome! Moors Wood is a small private woodland owned and managed by Sarah and Ian Blenkinsop as a nature reserve and as a sustainably managed source of various wood products.

Sarah is a freelance Environmental Educator, Lecturer and Forest School Leader. Based at her own site at Moors Wood, Sarah provides fun natural/recycled craft workshops; play or storytelling sessions; eco themed parties; workshops on food preservation, setting up an organic garden, setting up a composting area or keeping chickens; or training courses in various woodcraft and play skills. These services are available for adults and/or children. Sarah is also very happy to come to you and deliver any of the above, or to give talks to groups.

Follow the links to find out more about what is on offer. Please click on the photos if you need to make them larger. Also visit Sarah's other site, The Compost Bin, for more general info and advice on sustainable living.

Woodland workout, snowdrops and bonfires

We have a beautiful display of snowdrops here in Moors Wood, now.

See the daffodils and bluebells peeping up?

We have been coppicing and felling trees for use as firewood this week. We split the logs and stack them in the log store for two years so they are well seasoned when we finally burn them in the woodburner in the house. The poles are sorted and either cut up for firewood, put aside for beanpoles or for other uses ( obelisks, chair making, yurt poles, shelter supports, hurdles etc)

We always leave some log and twig piles as habitats for wildlife.

We shred the branches we don't want to cut up for kindling, and either add the shreddings to the compost bins or use them in the hen runs on the floor. The smallest twiggery gets burnt.

I love a good bonfire after a hard day of work :-)

The ash (when cool) is used on the vegetable patch or the hens to dust bathe in or is stored for later use. Nothing gets wasted at Moors Wood.
